
Dick was the China advisor to the Mayor, City of Edmonton (2006-2013) and continues to work with the City departments and agencies in developing and enhancing their China strategy. He is currently providing consulting advice to a variety of projects in Canada, China and South Korea.
Dick was a member of the Asia Pacific Management Program Advisory Committee, MacEwan University, and over a number of years, mentoring Program interns at his office. He was Past Member of the Confucius Institute in Edmonton. He is also an advisor for a number of organizations such as the China Canada Business Association and the Canadian Asian Hospitality Industry Association and is Edmonton Chapter President of the World Chinese Business Association.
Dick was instrumental in the planning and organizing of the North American competition (2012-2013) for the Chinese musical instrument, the Guizhang. He was instrumental in bringing premiere performance of the original Beijing Opera to Canada. Dick has organized and introduced Canadian performers to the Chengdu International Sister Cities Youth Music Festival and the Harbin Summer Music Festival in China. Dick is active in helping build sister city or cooperating city arrangements between Alberta and Chinese cities and regions due to his past experiences in the Hokkaido, Japan and Alberta twinning; Heilongjiang, China and Alberta as well as Edmonton and Chinese cities of Harbin, Chengdu, Jinan, Shunde, Dongguan, and Qingdao among others.
Dick was a founding Member and Chairman of the Alberta Wildrose Foundation, an Alberta Government Agency responsible for the disbursement of lottery funds. He has served on numerous boards including the Edmonton Science Centre (Telus World of Science) and the Edmonton Art Gallery (Art Gallery of Alberta). He was a founding Member of the Edmonton Heritage Festival which has grown to be recognized as one of Canada’s premier multicultural festivals. Dick received the Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005.
